evolved over time.  In the early '80's when the 3450 and 2499 were available, they were referred to as "complicated", now grand complicated..

When the 5035 was developed and the 5070 introduced, the nomenclature had to change to establish differences between these models and the perpetuals.  In fact, the jump hour 150th anniversary model was considered a complicated piece even though it was time only.

Now with the large number of pieces being made with various complications, the line of demarcation becomes a little more difficult to establish.

I believe the terms are almost a marketing tool,  grand complication certainly has a little more sizzle than complicated which has more sizzle than simple.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the terms, maybe someone just put it in the wrong category by mistake.

A Minute Repeater, a Chronograph and another complication, such as the Perpetual calendar; That is the classic definition. Now, this word has been abused. Best, Nicolas

My friend and I noticed that last weekend and he was joking that he will NOT order the 5370 UNTIL it's classified as Grand Complication! :-) I do think this is a mistake and probably will be corrected in due time.
