Ursus Arctos a.k.a. Eurasian Brown Bear, in America known as Grizzly Bear ,is one of the most magnificent wild animals outside Africa. In some parts of Europe, the animal is relatively common.
Brown Bear is a mixed feeder, in other words it's eating both meat but also all kinds of berries, mushrooms, etc. Normally the bear avoids human because of fear. The reason is that the young cups learn the fear from their mothers. Again, the fear is based on limited hunting.
If the bear is not hunted for several generations, they loose the fear against human and consider human just as slow moving dinner... That has happened i.e. in some large national parks.
I spend a lot of time in Lapland where the bear population is relatively strong. The local people do not want to experience the situation that the bears are so fearless that they come a pick up their children as a snack. That has happened in the past.
So it's very different to love the bears in TV and to live in an area with a strong population. (The last brown bear I hunted was a male bear, getting tame and he went to the yards of the people. The local authorities gave an order to remove this bear). I love the bear also in the nature and I'm very happy that in both of my home countries, Finland and Estonia, we have a healthy population of bear.
Best regards,
Kari
