more info on the Marquetry dials ?

To be honest, until a few months ago I never heard about marquetry dials before. First time was when I got that book they made for their 175th anniversary.
A few pages in this book are about enamel, engraving and…. marquetry.
How does this compare to for example enamel ? is it equally difficult to make ? Does it take the same time to make and are there also only a few people who can make these dials ? How about the production number ? Also a few dozen per year like the enamel dials or is it much more / less ? And the price … comparable with an enamel dial ? Are these new watches for Patek , I'e seen Cartier making marquetry dials but this is the first Patek I see.
So Cartier also had a marquetry dial in the past, don't know when they started with this art
In 2007 Vacheron made these watches with masks. Will Patek also start to produce watches with little sculptures on the dial ?
Another kind of sculptures can by found on Jacquet Droz. I don't like these because I see no reason for having birds and eggs on my dial but they could (imo) also use more appropriate sculptures
Another Cartier which took my attention a few years ago is the mosaic dial
Enamel dials, marquetry, engraved dials …. will we see more ? is this a new trend ?
What else will the future bring ?
