I have been using a Canon 1Ds for the last couple of years, before that Canon 10D. The pictures posted
above are all taken with the Canon MP-E 65mm lens (a specialized macro lens which provides magnification
from 1:1 through 5:1), for less intense pictures I use Canon 100mm macro.
I have recently acquired the very nice tripod shown (I should have bought it long ago, it was not
expensive, but other priorities intruded), and as a steady camera is required for the often long exposures
(sometimes 8-30 seconds) I use mirror lock-up and a remote release on cable.
My light tent is really basic, tracing paper stretched over a metal frame, with some extra translucent
"wings" at the front if I have to shield additional reflections. I have 2 squares of matched marble
tiles (left over from our front hallway at home) as a setting, and for lighting 4 articulated desk-type
lamps bolted to those chair arms, so I can roll them around and twist them about. The bulbs are labeled
"full spectrum" but in truth they provide light which PhotoShop considers ordinary "incandescent".
Here are some views:
1. In my office
2. The light tent, additional tracing paper taped in front of the bulbs
3. From behind the camera. I try to limit the light behind the watch
4. In action, all room lights off and door closed, photo lights only
