Hello Oliver and thanks for your kind welcome
I bought the 5127G in early december as my own Christmas present. I intend to buy the PP 3738 as a birthday present to myself ! (and hopefully not planning any other major purchase after this).
I am not really missing anything from the 5127G but in my collection I would like another Patek as I did enjoy the first one very much. I have some other watches in my collection like the H. Moser & Cie Monard Palladium and the Monard Date in white gold, and the Breguet Marine (both in steel and gold).
These watches are 39-40mm is bigger than the calatrava and obviously the 3738. On the other side I always liked the Nautilus or Aquanaut. Bigger/heavier watches do not feel so comfortable on a smaller wrist like mine so I have found myself not wearing them as much as I would like. I use the computer too many hours in a day so I need something that I can wear and is comfortable. The Nautilus 5712G is really a gorgeous watch and perhaps more complete (date, moon phase) but it is also at a difference price point so I would tend to agree that the comparison is a bit unfair !
I would like a second patek as, among the other watches I own, I value the consistency of Patek both in terms of quality (the new PP seal) and pricing. True, not many discounts available at a Patek Boutique or AD but perhaps this is an aspect I do like about luxury.
I couldn't agree more about popularity ! I was just thinking that, not seeing many announcements or photos of the 3738/100G-012 perhaps there was an hidden reason why is not so loved as the 5127G. It was reassuring to see some photos from other Golden Ellipse owners so I think the reasons that make it less interesting is the size and dial shape that I am sure is not for everyone!
I will try it again in the next few days and will probably get it as I do think it would fit well as something different yet special !
Regards
Christian
