It was great seeing you during the holidays, and thanks for lugging your new gift around so I had the opportunity to check it out. Santa was generous this year... and just how nice did you have to be to deserve this?! (hope you managed to get away with a little naughty )
Admittedly, I wasn't too keen on the 5575 when I first saw the pictures. The black-everything was a bit of a departure from traditional WT's and seemed more in line with fashion or sport oriented watches. The star-filled sky also seemed cluttered and not particularly artistic. Hands-on, however, and the dial takes on a whole different meaning and it becomes apparent what PP was aiming for - a truly accurate depiction of the night sky. The moon, in particular, stands out. While not warranting much attention in pictures because of its lack of color (gray), it is unbelievably life-like in the metal, down to its luminescent quality (at times mother-of-pearl-like) and imperfections from the landscape. The stationary heart shaped disc blends in so well with the moon's rotating disk that the borders are barely perceptible even with a loupe. The result is that all one sees is open sky, and the circling moon as it moves through its phases. No umbrella shaped skies here. The feel here is more astrological and scientific instrument.
It is hard to describe how accurately PP has captured the look and sensation of gazing a star-filled night from a mountain top... on a watch! Unfortunately, having seen this moon phase, I may have trouble taking the more typical 'yellow moon rising over the Kardashian humps' seriously. Can you ever forgive me for having doubted your impeccable taste?
Happy New Year! May your 2015 be just as star-filled!
