Several times such a comparison in the last few hours debating about this pilot watch.
I find the comparison with the reactions generated 40 years ago by the ref. 3700 is at least not well centered.
The Nautilus, when introduced into the market, didn't create any scandal, it was just another model in a new segment of products already started 4 years before by AP with the royal oak (but already existing before in the 60's even if not with the same elegant characteristics and in a more casual and rough form proposed by other companies in cheaper versions).
A completely new typology of watches that soon all the mayor high end companies will follow proposing their versions with different commercial success.
And the 3700 was at its time a true masterpiece from any point of view.
This is not the same, it's an ordinary pilot watch like a bunch of many others in the last 70 years (with a movement already seen in other watches which is not the best the company has ever made), which has anything to share with the tradition of the company itself, if not about a prototype stored somewhere in their museum.
This watch stands to Patek as an ultra thin perpetual calendar stands to rolex.
I'm not saying it won't be successfull (despite i guess so), but that it's a clear signal there is something wrong in the strategies of the Sterns.
Maybe the name on the dial it's no more sufficient to sell those watches, made in that way, at their prices.
Best regards
