Can we stop calling it a Zenith , when you look at this picture ?

many different brands, all the same style

This is not a Zenith style watch but a watch based on the looks of a 1920's  - 1950's pilot watch

Using a similar  letter font does not  make you knock off  … or do we call all the Patek watches with Breguet numbers a Breguet knock off  ???

The case, crown, lugs,  hands,  etc are VERY different

if you call this the same ???
Than 99% of all the watches on the planet look the same smile

I like that new Pilot watch !

 By: Bruno.M1 : March 18th, 2015-04:38
This new pilot Watch is imo a great new piece. Blue dial and a 42mm case ... Some people are imo way to consevative ... Why hate new stuff? I really like the fact that Patek dares to make a totally different watch, this new style is somethig I was waiting...

Since the discussion has been opened: lack of technical ingenuity

By: COUNT DE MONET : March 18th, 2015-04:57
Let me also join in (with a feeling of "guilt" not to discus to be honest). I like also the fact that it is an untypical, bold and young Patek. To me it was clear with the release of the 5204 that Patek is rejuvenating its collection. This one is the most...

No doubt that fitting the split second

 By: Jester : March 19th, 2015-03:17
movement into a pilot watch would be an even bolder move, however, given the price point of split second movement, (assuming perhaps 5370P price minus 10-20%?) I'm not very convinced that the target audience at that price point would want pilot watch styl...

I was also thinking it might be the birth of a new line

By: COUNT DE MONET : March 19th, 2015-03:24
Patek has not a real tradition in pilot watches or let us say not a long tradition but maybe it starts here? In steel or any other non precious material it would have been "too cheap" looking for a Patek and hence in WG, I suppose. Best Moritz

Not entirely sure

 By: Jester : March 19th, 2015-05:54
about 5524A (5524 in SS) being too cheap as the complication has already been executed in Aquanaut case ref: 5064A at a lower price point. So let's say for argument sake that they DO come out w/ 5524A at similar price point as to 5064A, it would still be ...

Dual time on a pilot's watch

By: COUNT DE MONET : March 20th, 2015-05:24
At first glance it seems to make sense to use this complication in a pilot's watch but historically not, I suppose. These type of watches were war utensils back in the days in order to determine targets on ground during flight. For this reason pilot watch...

5524G & new 5170G

 By: patrickh : March 18th, 2015-05:47
are my 2015 PP favorites. 5524G is a new category for PP and I am confident that in real it is a Beauty that photos already shown do not give justice 5170G with its full clean black dial (without pulsometer scale) is just PERFECT IMHO. Wait to read your a...

if they wanted to dare...

 By: dsgalaxy1 : March 18th, 2015-05:53
they would have presented a new cobra cottier in yellow gold. a real LE in 50 pieces. a small aviator watch it's like a ferrari with a gas engine... IMHO ;)

Bruno,..

It looks too much like a Zenith Pilot GMT. Not sure if it's a good or bad thing. But the resemblance is striking ! Don't anybody feel that way ? Wearing a PP looking with a Zenith DNA . Hopefully someone who has both , take a photo of the 2 watches side b...

I agree

 By: w220 : March 18th, 2015-06:13
I actually agree with you. A bold move, yes for sure. But why not try something new? It's not like they are making this model their bread and butter. The pushers looks a bit too large for my taste, but still an interesting move.

5524

 By: akitaishi : March 18th, 2015-06:40
I was referring to the 5524. Are you referring to this reference ? I am neutral as to whether it is a good move to have this PP release. Only highlighting the resemblance it has to the Zenith Pilot GMT. As to whether it would be well received/success, onl...

i think the 5524 is ugly, and poor choice in white gold

 By: mjnoumoff : March 18th, 2015-08:09
I assumed with the 7% price decrease and steeper AD discounts, Patek would be very reserved this year. try and solidify their base of clients and really push what they are known for despite the pricing and competition issues. some new models, but nothing ...

That watch...

 By: ciaca : March 18th, 2015-08:12
It's not a Patek Philippe. There is nothing, in that trendy casual watch of a vague military inspiration, which belongs to the long Patek tradition. Nor the aestethic, neither from a technical point of view. Without the brand on the dial you could confuse...

I am suspicious concerning Patek pics

 By: ch9698 : March 18th, 2015-08:19
I want to see the dial which is not black but deeply blue I Am very surprise and destabilize by this watch and as all of you I don't like that But remember reactions when they produced The Nautilus at the beginning...

I've read...

 By: ciaca : March 18th, 2015-08:39
Several times such a comparison in the last few hours debating about this pilot watch. I find the comparison with the reactions generated 40 years ago by the ref. 3700 is at least not well centered. The Nautilus, when introduced into the market, didn't cr...

Spot on.

 By: TheMadDruid : March 18th, 2015-09:04
This is a terrible decision by the Sterns. PP is entering Zenith/IWC territory. Why?! Is there anything else in the catalogue that so obviously steals its design cues from another manufacture? This is nothing but a down-sized, reworked Zenith Pilot GMT. I...

Don't say it around! :-) I've a reputation to defend Regards

that monster is not even closer to the new patek...

 By: christianch : March 24th, 2015-17:06
Ugly and totally different - probably no one would even trade the strap for that one. If you haven't seen the watch you can't really judge it.

There is no revealing...

 By: ciaca : March 24th, 2015-18:15
Truth in the fact nobody would trade a strap for that TCM. Which, as your usual, completely misses the point. Keep on trying... :-) Regards

It seems to be really hard ...

to accept embargo´s by the brands. Aaaaaargh! Tomorrow we can start ... ...

don't want to break any rules Oliver, but

 By: Bruno.M1 : March 18th, 2015-09:31
if the watches and pictures are all visible on the Patek website, can we still talk about an embargo ?

Can we stop calling it a Zenith , when you look at this picture ?

to reserve judgement on the Pilot until I see it live. I can tell you that for Patek collectors who currently DONT own a Pilots watch, may be inclined to pick this one up as it is indeed different than their other modern pieces. Aside from this, I love th...

I agree on this one

 By: P@trick@Belgium : March 18th, 2015-11:57
why all those "it looks like .... an X or a Z" ??, basically every pilot watch looks like an other pilot watch and let's not forget that they were all made to some specifactions set by the Air forces, so why all the fuzz ?? I agree that it would have been...

Of course...

 By: ciaca : March 25th, 2015-08:24
We could call it in many ways, a stowa, an iwc or in any dozens other ways. We could call whatever the name is, everything but Patek :-) Regards

the movement is the same of aquanaut TT, right?

 By: dsgalaxy1 : March 18th, 2015-10:38
The easiest way to show a new watch, but how many would buy it without that name on the dial? A titanium case would have been a better choice, as well as a 45 mm case and a manual movement.... But i'm not working in PP :-D

'spect

 By: Tonypatch : March 18th, 2015-12:42
I fully agree. PP should be more daring. One idea could be following the Breitling and Audemars examples. Why not a co-branding strategy, since Bentley is already taken why not another brand which is on its way up like Patek, say...Lexus? "Patek for Lexus...

No way

 By: tom2517 : March 20th, 2015-06:12
Am I getting close to this one, I don't want people to think I am wearing a badly faked Patek.
