Patek Philippe: thanks

Many thanks to all those who have responded. I did follow the instructions exactly, but I am now going to run the experiment once more and if it fails then I guess I have no choice but to send it in for service. Incidentally, yesterday I randomly tested the transition from March 31 to April 1 and th

Patek Philippe: 5960 Calendar problem

Dear all, I have had a 5960P for just over 2 years, but I don't wear it often. This time I've been wearing it for about a week then suddenly I found that the month didn't switch over to FEB this morning (both Day and Date changed correctly to MON and 1). So, I performed the following 2 experiments 1

Patek Philippe: Offshores with in-house movements

Cal 3126, which is based on the excellent cal 3120 is increasingly found in the later models> For example, the Navy, Safari, Volcano produced after around 2008 are equipped with cal 3126. I dislike the 5980 because it looks too thick for the Nautilus case, which was always quite thin.

Patek Philippe: A related question about my 5970J

It seems that the chrono buttons on my 5970J are somewhat different in that the polished surface seems to occupy a bigger portion relative to the bushed portion (looking at the buttons at some angles, sometimes it seems to me that the polished portion on each button occupies as much as nearly half t

Patek Philippe: 5130P

I agree with Joe, it can sometimes be difficult to tell the time off that dark dial. I also have a 5130G, which is always easier to tell the time. Incidentally, for some unknown reason my 5130P (bought 2008) can only run for 45 hours whereas my 5130G can run for 49.5 hours. I'm sure it has nothing t

Patek Philippe: 5130 power reserve

My 5130G (bought 2006) has a power reserve of about 49.5 hours, which is ok because that's slightly above the stated max of 48. However, my 5130P (bought 2008) can only run for 44.5 hours. Is there something wrong with the watch? Why is there such a big difference? Could it be that the watch has bee

Patek Philippe: no need for a new seal

I share the sentiment that there's really no need for a new seal. Actually, PP should stand behind their products and the PP signature on the dial / movement should be sufficient to guarantee the quality of their products. I am worried that they are now drawing the line between products pre-/post- t

Vacheron Constantin: How to revive a "dead" watch?

I suddenly found my cal.1120Q dead after several months in the bank vault. It ran for a minute or two and then stopped. I've tried manual winding it a bit and have tried gently shaking it, but it is still not moving. While it was running I set the watch to the correct time and left it on my desk. Th

Patek Philippe: a related question on winding

Does anyone know why it is best to manually wind an automatic watch that has stopped before allowing the auto-winding mechanism to take over? Why not gently move the watch to get it moving again? All the manuals that I have come across indicate that a stopped automatic watch should be wound 10-20 ti

Patek Philippe: Question on 5712 power reserve indicator

Hi, I notice that the power reserve hand points almost horizontally at the third red dot when the watch is not running. Then, when the watch is fully wound, the hand goes beyond the "48" at the other end of the scale slightly. I wonder if this is normal because the first two red dots don't seem to s
