Have you considered a 5134???

If you have concerns about the 5196 being too "entry level" because you seek a bit of a complication, I suggest considering the 5134 (Travel Time). It is also more understated than a 5130.  The 5134 is one of my favorite Patek references.  It is a time zone watch which tracks two zones at once through a push button system and hidden skeleton hand which is quite cool and unique (and now utilized on the highly popular 5164).  The earlier versions of the 5134 have Breguet numerals, and the later version have 3-6-9 in Arabic (or stick markers in platinum).  It is a beautiful piece which can be dressed up or down, which IMO is under appreciated.  Travel times from the 60's have made big results at auction recently, despite being a more simple complication.  I traded a 5134g for a 5110P a few years ago, but I have been looking for a 5134p because I do miss it.  If you do a search on this site you will find many pictures of the one I formerly owned.  Good luck with your decision!

...so please help me: 5196G OR 5130R OR BOTH?! The thing is....the 5196G is perfect, so simple and timeless that it could last a lifetime with me, especially in under-the-radar WG. But it is an "entry level" Patek (if such things exists). The 5130R is a f...

So, if the 5130 R is too loud, try the 5130 G.

A well known pre-owned PP dealer has one, I will give it a try. But my heart is set on the R version, in particular because I have RG cufflinks I want to wear with it. The 5196 is off the list - I am too poor to spend so much money on a entry level watch ...

Keep one of your "daily beaters" ...

and start with 5130R. Don´t make any compromises and don´t put all eggs in one basket. Oliver
