I know, I should really make up my mind...

...so please help me:

5196G

OR

5130R

OR

BOTH?!

The thing is....the 5196G is perfect, so simple and timeless that it could last a lifetime with me, especially in under-the-radar WG.
But it is an "entry level" Patek (if such things exists).

The  5130R is a fascinating jewellery-kind-of-thing which is eccentric, marmite-love-or-hate-it (like cigars, foie gras, Sauternes/Monbazillac, oysters, pink cordury trousers, Bay Rum aftershave, Bristol cars, medium-rare grouse with game chips - in short:  stuff men take time to appreciate). But it is too "loud" for some occasions.

BONUS QUESTION:

I have two 1970ies manual wind Rolex Oysters, one on a Rolex leather strap and a Explorer 1 look-alike dial/bezel design - I wear this one one day per month.
And another one, with a modern Oyster braclet and silver dial; this is the go-to-school watch I wear when on discreet missions. 5196G territory.
Should I keep these two?? Or put them on -bay and be a PP-only man?

So, if the 5130 R is too loud, try the 5130 G.

I will give it a try

A well known pre-owned PP dealer has one, I will give it a try. But my heart is set on the R version, in particular because I have RG cufflinks I want to wear with it. The 5196 is off the list - I am too poor to spend so much money on a entry level watch ...

Keep one of your "daily beaters" ...

and start with 5130R. Don´t make any compromises and don´t put all eggs in one basket. Oliver

Have you considered a 5134???

If you have concerns about the 5196 being too "entry level" because you seek a bit of a complication, I suggest considering the 5134 (Travel Time). It is also more understated than a 5130. The 5134 is one of my favorite Patek references. It is a time zone...
