Golden Ellipse

Read your post and responses you received.

It can be a perplexing journey to your first Patek given your research regarding the variables you've encountered thus far.

Since you are in the US, I would encourage you to pursue obtaining your watch from an AD here in the US and one nearby if possible.  I say this because of your age and interest.  You would be the ideal client, meaning there is an opportunity to develop a long term relationship for you both.  As a former dealer, I encountered many folks in the same position you've described, who recognized and appreciated the quality Patek offered but like most starting out in life, it was a financial struggle.  I made every effort to help those to get to the watch they wanted and was successful in most cases.  It wasn't easy because Patek expects their check promptly, certainly sooner than the purchase price would be paid.

Don't underestimate the value of the relationship with an AD.  It can be something in the future which you would look back and be thankful for.  It can be that important.  Of course money is an issue, but there is much more to buying a Patek than just writing a check and getting the lowest price.  That low price generally comes with baggage.  An AD 12,000 miles from you makes most things an AD can and should do for you more difficult and more importantly, inconvenient for you.

I hope you find an AD who is willing to work with you to get your dream watch and ...  more in the future.

I don't know if this is of any help but hope so.

I am new to PP world. I just saw a white gold golden ellipse and would like to purchase the same. Did a web search and saw prices which are thousands of $$ apart seemingly for the same exact watch (example, a HK seller with a price 10K less. I want to buy...

I have the WG Golden Ellipse

with a blue dial and 240 automatic movement. The watch is a bit smallish to my 8 inches wrist and thus I bought also the bigger platinum version. Let the Moderators correct me if I'm wrong but we do not give any price guidelines nor purchase advice here. ...

...he likes the Ellipse so why bring up the much more expensive and also totally different Nautili??? Yes, I know it is mainstream to like them, but he wants something else, why talk him into it? In particular, why "start" with stainless steel, which is q...

If an opinion is asked, I tell what I think. I'm not a Guru whose opinion should be followed but I am trying to help a first timer. Golden Ellipse is an iconic Patek but for many of us it is a specialised watch looking better with suit than with swimming ...

Swimming pants?

The chap who inquired about the watch seems to like the Ellipse, most likely he has seen it in the flesh and tried it on. I did not read anything about swimming. Unless you live on a tropical island, which most people in the world dont, wearing a suit-com...

Just as you like.

I just tried to help. Best, Kari

Gentleman, in my opinion Ellipse is a watch.....

 By: watercolors : November 15th, 2016-02:10
that is not easily distinguished. It is not a matter of a "Suit watch" or "Swimming trunks" watch. It is a watch of some aesthetical value designed for a true Aristocrat , a person whom you can see at an important function wearing a silk neckerchief from ...

It is just me but

I have had the Ellipse for quite a long time and for me it is mostly a black tie watch. Best Kari

For me it is much more, it is a lifestyle.....

I am most grateful for your reply. I didn\'t realize that some of my questions were verboten. So sorry, being a first timer, I wasn\'t conversant with the site\'s protocol. I saw a brown white gold ellipse w/brown strap and was smitten. The watch was very...

Hi Mark: Thank you for your most comprehensive note...very impressive. I can see now that this forum is for "real" (transient) connoisseurs, where the conversation is mostly about pros and cons (if any) of different watches. Fair enough, that is the right...

and I must say I understand and quite agree with all you said in a sense that the "investment" and "financial" parts of the subject may be interesting as well, first because it is part of the watchworld, it is interesting to know how it works and secondly...

My father owns 3 Golden Ellipses. They are rather unique and not seen too often in the wild. That is what makes them fun to wear. The watch is a timeless classic. I would recommend trying one on for fit and feel. When you are buying pre-owned make sure to...
